Pythagorean

In spite of our struggles with Covid-19 and the remote learning situations during the past year and a half,  Mr. Burke and I are finding, with great pleasure, that our 8th graders are making great strides with 8th grade math concepts!  Many educators, parents, as well as students, anticipated learning gaps and other academic challenges. However, our students continue to show success taking on all the 8th grade math curriculum with leaps and bounds. Topic 4, otherwise known as Pythagorean Theorem, was mastered by most with ease! The 8th grade math teachers are pleased at the success and hard work of our students to master this concept and each new one presented.  We are confident our 8th graders will be “high school- ready” by June!

Being a co-educator, I am also able to see this progress across all subject areas. I have the unique experience of being able to co-teach with multiple teachers in various subjects of his/her mastery, and I am also able to be a constant presence for many students in the 8th grade throughout their school day.  Not only do I have the pleasure of getting to know the students better, but I can also better serve their needs with other valuable skills such as organization, study skills, etc.  Our students have returned to school with a burning desire not only to socialize, but to learn and learning is what is taking place! From molecular structures, to a compilation of short stories by Edgar Allan Poe, to the Industrial Revolution students are learning and mastering each lesson. Since school (fully) reopened in September, this has all been happening!

In spite of the initial concerns that included anticipated challenges and expected obstacles, our WMS 8th graders continue to show up and display the resilience of the human spirit.  My concerns about the learning gaps are dissipating each day and hopefully, in the near future the last 18 months, will seem like a distant memory.
