As we quickly approach the last marking period of the school year, students in 7th grade have officially broken up with Britain and celebrated our independence! Through activities such as learning about unfair taxation and laws, conducting a mock trial, and creating protest posters, students have gained a thorough understanding of how the United States became a country.

In celebration of our completion of this unit and our freedom and independence, we came together and threw a big independence day party, complete with headbands, patriotic mustaches, and a festive Fourth of July playlist. It was a great way to celebrate the end of this chapter and express a deep appreciation for the freedom we are so lucky to have in the U.S.A.!

As we transition into the end of the year, our goal is to continue to improve our historical thinking skills that transcend social studies and can be used by students in all areas of their lives. We will continue our studies through the Revolutionary War and the creation of our Constitution, with a strong emphasis on our rights. Then, we will end the school year with our 7th grade presidential election, which will allow students to use their knowledge of civics and the U.S. Constitution to create their very own platform and presidential campaign.
