We just finished reading The Crossover by Kwame Alexander in our 7th and 8th grade Language Arts Resource class. This book kept our attention from the beginning until the end with its vivid descriptions and relatable topics. You couldn’t help but laugh out loud a few times as you connected with more than one character or situation.  Most students were apprehensive about reading a verse novel but with the help of our energetic Learning Ally audio reader, the flow of the poems (chapters) was easy to follow and instilled the proper emotion and tone that made the book come alive.

As a culminating activity, we are completing a character analysis collage for our main characters using visuals and words to describe their personality traits and physical characteristics. As well as choosing one of the Basketball Rules for Life quotes from the novel and evaluating how that life rule affected the main character and how it relates to our own lives.
