Did you know that sound would not exist without vibrations? That’s what the students in Mrs. Zubrzycki’s science classes discovered in their first sound activity. They flicked a ruler to observe vibrations with their senses of sight and hearing. They found that the harder they flicked the ruler, the more amplitude the ruler had. In another experiment, students used different-sized rubber bands and strings to determine how the pitch or frequency changed when the length, tightness, and thickness of the string changed. We still have a lot to learn-what causes an echo, how sonic booms occur, how sound travels through different mediums, and much more! Science is so much fun!
